Winter is off to a slow start this year, but eventually all that Michigan snow will come.  If you are planning to move during the winter, make sure you are prepared so your move is as stress free as possible.

  1. If there is snow on the ground, don’t forget to have snow removal done before your movers arrive.  The closer they can park to the doorways, the faster your move will go.  Also, make sure the pathways you intend for them to take are clear as well.  If they have to get around snow obstacles, it can add unnecessary time onto your move.
  2. Don’t forget to salt walkways.  As you can imagine, it is dangerous to be carrying things on slippery ground. It puts your items and the men on your job at risk. As well as this also adds time on the clock if they are walking slowly due to ice.
  3. Winter time is a slower time for moving. Because of this, sometimes people wait util the last minute to book their moves.  Although there can often be more leeway due to the moving slow down, we do not recommend that you depend on that.  Especially for weekend moves.  They do still tend to book up in advance.  So it is best to stick with booking once you are certain of the day you’d like to move.
  4. We are often asked what happens if it snows on the day your move is scheduled for.  If the snow is not out of the ordinary the day before or on the day of your move, we typically continue on with the schedule.  However, if there is a dangerous amount of snow, your move may be rescheduled.  This hardly ever happens.  But if it becomes dangerous, we must do what is right for all parties involved.
